A reliable look into the future

How much electricity can Alpiq deliver to its customers in the summer in two years' time? The answers are provided not by a crystal ball, but by our sophisticated portfolio management system.

Alpiq owns a wide variety of energy purchase rights and sales contracts for electricity, coal, gas and other energies, which vary widely from country to country. For instance, Alpiq owns rights to highly flexible pump storage hydroelectric stations in Switzerland, gas-fired power plants in Italy, and operates electricity purchase and sales contracts with suppliers in other countries. But how much electricity will Alpiq have at its disposal in future, if you add together all the sales and purchase contracts?

Our portfolio management uses special software for trading and risk management to create complex models of energy purchase and sales contracts, power plants, and transport rights for all products (electricity, coal, gas, CO2, etc.). We use the findings to formulate physical trading recommendations for our customers, with the aim of building the foundations of a secure, low-cost supply of electricity that gives due consideration to of all risks.

Portfolio Management

A closed circle: Alpiq's portfolio management allows you to optimally procure electricity based on an appropriate yield-risk ratio, even when secondary factors are taken into account.
